About
Quick answer: Scarano Marine is an authorized MAN and John Deere Marine engine dealer — and certified on MTU engines — founded in 2007 by Adolfo Scarano, a marine engineer and former Merchant Navy chief engineer. From locations in Miami and Fort Lauderdale, our factory-trained technicians provide mobile dockside service throughout South Florida, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
What We Are — and What We Aren’t
Scarano Marine is an authorized MAN dealer and an authorized John Deere Marine dealer. That authorization means factory-documented warranty work, genuine OEM parts, direct manufacturer technical support, and diagnostics performed on the official factory systems — the same hardware and software the manufacturers’ own engineers use. We are also certified on MTU engines and actively service MTU installations — a capability rooted in my 20 years with an MTU distributor and factory training at MTU headquarters in Friedrichshafen.
Roughly 90% of our technicians’ hours are spent on MAN engines specifically. That concentration matters: the technician arriving at your vessel has almost certainly seen your exact engine, and very likely your exact failure, before. Our technicians are MAN factory certified or trained at marine technical schools, and every one of them is taught the same discipline I learned at sea — diagnose by evidence, repair to the manufacturer’s blueprint, and document everything.
Our services cover the full life of a marine diesel installation: complete engine, transmission, and generator overhauls, routine repair, preventative maintenance, MAN warranty work and commissioning, engine surveys, and failure analysis. Our customers include pleasure yachts, commercial vessels, and government boats.
All of our engine service is mobile and dockside. Your vessel never needs to come to us; we come to it — whether that’s a marina in Coconut Grove, a boatyard on the Miami River, a slip in Fort Lauderdale, or a mooring in the Bahamas. Our Miami location also operates a walk-in parts counter with a dedicated sales team for genuine MAN and John Deere Marine parts and engines, plus an online store that ships throughout the Bahamas, the Caribbean, and beyond.
The Work That Speaks for Us
Our team maintains three Miami-Dade Fire Rescue boats powered by MAN V8-1200 engines as an authorized Miami-Dade County vendor, and two John Deere-powered tugboats supporting the Everglades restoration project. We handle repowers at Miami River institutions like RMK Merrill-Stevens and Norseman Shipbuilding, warranty work across the Caribbean, and the daily rhythm of milestone services, diagnostics, and sea trials that keep South Florida’s yachts running. Government agencies, commercial operators, and private owners trust us with the same engines for the same reason: the work holds up.
Not the Biggest — the Best
As a service provider, we’re really not concerned with being the biggest. We are interested in being the leading service provider in terms of quality, service level, and customer satisfaction. That relentless commitment to customer satisfaction is the company culture, and it’s what built our reputation as a service provider and business partner of the highest standard.
How We Work
Our mission has never changed: personal, customer-oriented service — satisfaction, consistency, and honesty first. We tell owners what their engines actually need, not what pads an invoice. When a repair is under warranty, we fight to make sure the manufacturer covers it. And when something can wait, we say so. Thirty years in this industry taught me that a shop’s reputation is built one honest diagnosis at a time, and that’s the standard every member of our multinational team is held to.
History
From Engine Rooms at Sea to the Miami River
I’m Adolfo Scarano, and I’ve spent my working life inside diesel engine rooms. I hold a degree in marine engineering, and my career began in the Merchant Navy, sailing as chief engineer aboard transatlantic cargo ships — the person responsible for keeping a ship’s machinery running in the middle of the ocean, where there is no one to call and no dock to limp back to. That environment teaches you a kind of diagnostic discipline that no classroom can: you learn to read an engine by sound, by feel, by the story its temperatures and pressures tell, because catching a problem early is the difference between a repair and an emergency.
I brought that knowledge of commercial vessels into the world of pleasure yachts, beginning on the Miami River in 1991. From there I spent 20 years with an MTU distributor — five of them as service manager — learning the business from the wrenches to the office, and earning factory certifications at MTU headquarters in Friedrichshafen, Germany and at Detroit Diesel headquarters in Michigan. In 2007, I founded Scarano Marine because I wanted to provide a more personal, customer-oriented service — a company where satisfaction, consistency, and honesty always come first.
